Alex graduated in July 2010 after undertaking a four year Master of Optometry degree course at The University of Manchester. Her training included a year working in a large, thriving, independent practice in Hereford and at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. Since qualifying Alex went back to Hereford to work in the independent sector before moving closer to home and joining the team at Jane Smellie Opticians in January 2011. Having left her home town of Leeds, West Yorkshire, Alex has now settled in Chester.
Rachel graduated from Aston University in 1998. She was awarded the College of Optometrists prize for binocular vision the following year in her professional exams. Rachel has a variety of optometric experience; working for Boots Opticians and Ultralase where she gained extensive knowledge in the field of cataract and refractive surgery. She has a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Optometry from Cardiff University, awarded in 2015. She has recently attained the College of Optometrists Professional Certificates in Low Vision and in Glaucoma.
Rachel lives near Chester with her husband and two children. She enjoys yoga and singing with Rock Choir.
Rozanna Graduated in 2007 from Cardiff University with a BSc Hons. She has previously worked in busy Independent Optometric Practices, whom have had an emphasis on delivering clinical care beyond the standard eye test. Rozanna has completed the extra WOPEC qualifications for Acute Eye, Cataract, Paediatric and Glaucoma. Having joined Jane Smellie Opticians in the summer of 2017, she is able to continue to utilise these qualifications and enjoys expanding her knowledge by becoming involved with Visual Stress Assesments. Rozanna enjoys leisure time reading and walking with her husband and two children.
Alex left Bishop Heber High School in 2014 going on to study Optometry at Cardiff University where he graduated in 2017. During his time at University, he spent 4 weeks in rural Malawi working on a children’s glaucoma screening clinic. His university studies included a research project investigating the effectiveness and reliability of vision training mobile apps. After spending his university holidays as an Optical Assistant at Jane Smellie Opticians, he commenced his Pre-Registration period in July 2017. Alex enjoys skiing and watching live sport.
In 2014, Ryan left Wirral Grammar School to go on and study Optometry at Cardiff University for 3 years, graduating in 2017. His university studies included a dissertation which involved research on future gene therapies for a variety of hereditary and common retinal diseases. Ryan has previously worked at an independent opticians as an Optical Assistant for 2 years. Ryan is a keen cyclist; including mountain biking and cross cycling, but enjoys most sports as well as going to the gym.
